The KS1 and 2 geography curriculum requires pupils to study their locality in a number of different ways. uLearn makes this uniquely easy, providing a range of maps from the simple to the detailed. It even provides aerial photographs to go with the maps.
The whiteboard and data projector are wonderful teaching aids to help pupils learn about their environment. uLearn provides the tools to display maps of your area and then drag-and-drop digital photographs onto the right locations. Every pupil, however young or old, finds this an exciting and personally relevant way of learning.
As the maps and aerial images are electronic they can be easily printed out and pasted into the pupil's workbooks or taken home and shared with members of the family, demonstrating what the pupil has been learning using this exciting medium. uLearn also gives the pupil the opportunity to include their own photographs, images and documents from home which relate to the subject being studied. These can be kept for personal use or shared with other pupils locally and nationally.
Measuring distance on paper maps is always a challenge. With uLearn all you have to do is draw a line on screen (keep changing it until you happy) and it calculates the distance for you! It even calculates the area of shapes you draw - from the size of the school to the size of the country!
Many people still find it useful to refer to the 'old' geography curriculum documents. At least 13 units in the KS1 and 2 geography curriculum can be significantly enhanced by using uLearn. Click on the links below to find out more information. Each set of notes provides a printable set of activities to follow and of course, because uLearn is a shared online tool, it provides you with the perfect opportunity to collaborate with another school, no matter how far away, sharing and comparing information.
