uLearn / Scoilnet Maps / NIMaps Release Notes

V1.13.1 (May 2010)

1. Favourite Sets

Users can now add resources to 'Favourite Sets', creating collections of related resources for use in lessons.

Users can add items to favourite sets by clicking on the heart icon where it appears next to the resource in Resource Explorer.  They then have the option of adding it to a new favourite set, or an existing private or published favourite set.

Favourite sets can be displayed by clicking on 'Favourite Sets (#)' where it appears above the map.  Clicking on a Favourite Set opens it, while hovering over it gives additional options (edit, delete and publish).

The favourite set view can be expanded by clicking on the maximise icon at the top right of the favourite set coverflow.

Once open, users can manipulate the resources inside by moving them around, adding / removing them from the set, or geocoding them (only for resources that they own).  Users can drag and drop resources to reorder them in Firefox.  Internet Explorer users can use the left and right arrows that appear when hovering over a resource to nudge resources left and right.

Hovering over a resource within a favourite set brings up additional options (move to another set, use as thumbnail and remove).

The Me > Favourites functionality still exists, and lists all favourites a user has added to any favourite set, sorted by file type.

Additional help is available here.

2. Low Bandwidth Mode

Where users are on a slower internet connection, they can now decide to use a 'low bandwidth' mode.  This mode allows maps to be displayed in slightly lower quality when zoomed right out.  The quality on zooming in remains high.

Users can access this option by clicking on Me > Account > Update my Display Preferences > Bandwidth Mode (standard / low).

3. Splash Page (uLearn only)

When users first access the site, a 'splash page' appears, giving details of the latest additions to the site.  This includes help, usage tips, best resources and latest developments.

The splash page automatically closes on login, but can be viewed again by clicking Help > Show splash page.
